My aim is to develop intelligent sensing technologies and advanced concretes and composites in and for the built environment and to promote sustainable development. My current funding has enabled collaborative research in this area. My specific research interests are the application of Fibre Optic Sensors for structural and durability monitoring of concrete and timber structures, the development of low energy materials, the use of advanced composites in construction, structural analysis and CMA. I have published several papers and technical reports as outlined in the attached publication list. I currently supervise/co-supervise 8 PhD students, four research staff and have supervised successful PhD students. I have a successful track record in Knowledge Transfer and a recent partnership received a National Award for Engineering Excellence. I am also the Director and a founder member of a QUB spin-out company, Sengenia Ltd.
